A member of the CSE ICON team since 2015, Vincent Witzel has recently been appointed President. Previously Vice President of Operations, he will now be managing operations together with other members of the company’s leadership team and overseeing the sales and administration teams. He looks forward to shaping the strategy and direction of CSE ICON; his goal is to elevate the company’s position in the marketplace while providing encouragement and support to the team, so all team members are empowered to bring innovative ideas to the table.

Throughout Vincent’s career, he has prioritized blending technical work with work that is more people-focused. Early in his career, he pursued roles that built technical proficiency and provided practical experience that allowed him to fundamentally understand the tactical day-to-day tasks performed by his team. His background has given him deeper insight into CSE ICON’s services and allowed him to have a more thoughtful and balanced perspective.

Upon joining CSE ICON in 2015, Vincent worked as a systems engineer and served as the technical lead for projects for industrial companies involving a data historian software by OSIsoft. In 2017, he was promoted to Practice Manager, where he managed the real-time data practice and led a distributed team of engineers working on technical projects using that same OSIsoft software. This role was his first foray into people management, and he began to split his time between technical work and other assignments including office administration and recruiting, human resources, business development, and account management.

In 2021, he was promoted to Director of Operations. In this role, he worked with practice managers across CSE ICON’s functions, including SCADA, real-time data, and infrastructure and automation. In addition, he managed staffing optimization, ensuring that all projects had the right resources so they could be successfully completed to the customer’s specifications. He found that he especially enjoyed this job responsibility, which allowed him to regularly interact directly with customers and employees.

Originally from Germany, Vincent moved frequently throughout his childhood, which has given him an appreciation for different cultures and languages. As such, he is proud to foster an inclusive work environment at CSE ICON, where a diverse workforce represents multiple countries of origin, ethnic backgrounds, gender identities, professional experiences, and a wealth of industry knowledge. He feels that creating a workplace where employees can share their own unique perspectives and experiences makes the company’s offering more valuable and sets it apart from competitors. He is fluent in English and German and conversational in Spanish.

At the beginning of his career, Vincent worked in sales and marketing consulting primarily for pharmaceutical companies. He served as a business analytics consultant, completing quantitative and qualitative data analyses. He then transitioned to an operational technology role for another systems integrator and worked as a technical lead, responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining new OSIsoft PI systems.

Vincent holds several technical certifications, including PI System Installation Specialist and PI System Infrastructure Specialist. He pursued these certifications both to enhance his own knowledge and to give him a more robust technical background so he could more fully support his team throughout his career. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University, where he studied manufacturing engineering technology.

An extrovert by nature, Vincent is excited be in a role that allows him to rely on his technical knowledge while having frequent opportunities to engage with employees and customers. One of his first actions as President was to reach out to customers directly to introduce himself and offer to be an additional point of contact. He feels that human connection and the ability to form true partnerships with customers are what defines CSE ICON—and what enables CSE ICON to build an offering that can help customers succeed in the long term.
