WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

CSE ICON is seeking an experienced SCADA consultant to work with our customers and solve challenging technical problems related to SCADA in the renewable (wind, solar, etc.) energy industry. Ideal candidates are familiar with SCADA systems (e.g., OSI’s Monarch, AVEVA’s Wonderware, Inductive Automation’s Ignition, and GE’s CIMPLICITY), programmable logic controllers (PLCs), real-time automation controllers (RTACs), field devices (e.g., meters and relays), equipment (e.g., batteries, transformers, and inverters), and polling engines (e.g., Kepware) and drawings commonly used in the renewable energy industry.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan (gather requirements), design, deploy, and administer SCADA solutions for wind, battery, and solar power systems at renewable power plants according to timelines and budgets during the development, construction, and operations phases of each project
  • Develop and modify relational databases
  • Develop graphical user interfaces (GUIs)
  • Work with project managers to:
    • Aggregate site requirements and create designs for construction
    • Deliver procurement and deployment plans, timelines and costs
    • Manage customers to ensure requirements and expectations are clear
  • Work with IT subcontractors in support of network security deliverables, testing, budgets, and system completion
  • Coordinate project site telecommunication scheduling and installation
  • Program substation RTAC units and communication hardware using standard SCADA protocols
  • Create and execute test plans
  • Work closely with project managers, other contractors, and the customer to ensure a quality SCADA system is installed and tested to meet customer specifications and quality, safety, environmental, utility, and regional reliability council requirements
  • Support the customer’s SCADA system throughout the life of the power plant to maintain its reliability on the grid
  • Develop custom software and scripts to work in conjunction with SCADA systems
  • Troubleshoot problems until site requirements are met
  • Maintain project documentation
  • Work effectively and diligently as an individual engineer and team member in front of both internal and external customers

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline such as Computer Science or Engineering
  • 5+ years of utility-scale SCADA design, implementation, programming, and administration experience, preferably in the renewable energy industry
  • Experience engineering power, control, data acquisition, and telecommunication systems
  • Experience with SQL (e.g., MySQL and MS SQL) and relational database design
  • Experience with communication protocols for base-level devices (e.g., Modbus, Modbus TCP, OPC, DNP3, SEL Fast Messaging, IEC 61850, and ICCP)
  • Experience with automation control systems (e.g., RTAC and PLC programming)
  • Experience with enterprise data historians (e.g., OSIsoft PI System)
  • Experience with FAT and SAT and the associated documentation
  • Knowledge of utility meters, substation RTAC, and protection relays (e.g., SEL, GE, etc.)
  • Knowledge of power plant networking, security, and firewalls
  • Knowledge of industrial networking equipment (e.g., managed switches and routers)
  • Familiarity with radio, microwave, T1, fiber, and analog communications
  • Familiarity with cyber security good practices
  • Ability to communicate complex SCADA and controls concepts to non-domain experts in a collaborative fashion
  • Knowledge of US SCADA standards related to the power industry (e.g., NIST and SGIA)
  • Knowledge of NERC/CIP requirements
  • Knowledge of grid codes and Independent Service Operators (e.g., CASIO and ERCOT)
  • Experience with reading single line diagrams (SLDs)
  • Experience with grid requirements, protection and operational limits,  and analogue signal collection and manipulation
  • Knowledge of solar industry tools (e.g., Inaccess, GreenPowerMonitor, and AlsoEnergy)
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent documentation and knowledge management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows operating systems and Office
  • Ability to travel, as required
